A grewsome(sic) incident is responsible for the indefinite postponement of the platform dance to have been given at Valeria last evening under the auspices of William Andrews for the benefit of the Catholic church of that place. The platform had been almost completed just across the alley from the Methodist Episcopal church house when John Phalen, who was there from Connecticut visiting relatives, mounted the platform and was in the midst of some playful remark to bystanders when he suddenly stumbled, sank to the floor and died without a struggle. The young man was about 20 years of age and was a brother of Mr. Ed. Phalen, at whose home he has been visiting for some weeks past. His fatal malady was heart trouble. The remains have been embalmed and will be taken to Connecticut, starting tonight, for interment at his parental home.
