Suicided – Frank Reams, at one time proprietor of a barber shop in this place, and who has ever since been engaged in the same business in Monroe, committed suicide last Sunday night in his sleeping room adjoining his shop, using laudanum. Despondency, caused by the fact that the girl he loved was more devoted to her profession (school teaching) than to him, and that there was no probability of their marriage, together, with continued ill health prompted the act which seems to have been calmly and deliberately planned and executed. A loaded revolver on the chair beside the bed on which his lifeless remains were found Monday morning indicated that there was to be no failure of his attempt. He had visited his fiancee Sunday night and upon parting from her at midnight seemed greatly cast down, declared his intention to sell out and leave Monroe, but gave no intimation of his intention to end his life. He had packed and boxed his trinkets, and in a letter accompanying bequeathed them to the woman he loved. Among his effects was a life insurance policy for $1,000. Deceased was in his thirty-fifth year, and a brother and sister gone before were victims of accidents that caused their deaths. The verdict of the coroner’s jury was suicide and the funeral was held Tuesday.
