Leslie King, Former Ida Grove Business Man, Dies in Salem, Oregon
Funeral services were held for Leslie King in Rose Chapel in Salem, Ore., with Rev. H. C. Stover of the Knight Memorial Church. Ronald Craven sang “In the Garden” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and concluding services were in Belcrest Memorial Park. George Leslie King was born in DeWitt, Iowa, January 26, 1873, and departed this life, April 20, at 6 p.m. after an illness of three months. On January 14 he suffered a severe stroke and after ten days took to his bed, where he remained until his death. Death was due to a brain tumor.
Went West in 1918
He lived the major portion of his life in his native state, going west in 1918, and locating in Salem. During his residence in Ida Grove he was associated with his father in the milling and ice business, also in the restaurant business. Mr. King was a great lover of high school sports. Never did and Ida Grove team win a state championship in track or football but what Les King was their booster. Clean sport was his motto. In the west he was engaged in the building trade. His fraternal relationship was with the Knights of Pythias. His religious association was with the Unitarian church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Blanche King, a son George of Seattle, Wash., and a daughter, Mrs. Helen King Bock, of Spokane. Also four sisters, Mrs. Alice Coolidge, Salem; Mrs. Lou Lainson and Mrs. Flora Holly, Los Angeles; and Mrs. Emma Spurrier, Pasadena, and three grandchildren.
