Leland R. Broders – First Infant Born Here This Year
The stork finally got back on the job last week and the many prizes offered to the first baby born in Ida Grove in 1951 have been won. According to the hospital officials, recipient of the gifts is Leland Richard Broders, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Broders who live on a farm 12 miles southwest of Ida Grove. Leland was born Saturday, Jan. 6, at 3:05 a.m. He weighed seven pounds, four and a quarter ounces. Dr. E. H. Heilman was the attending physician. Prizes which 1951’s first baby will receive are 21 quarts of milk, Ida Grove Dairy; vaporizer, Haase Pharmacy; blanket Bo-Peep Shop; 12 cans of baby food, Pete’s photo, Lahman Studio; baby gift box, Heffron Pharmacy; Terrycloth gift set, Penney’s; baby bunting, McTigue’s; toilet adapter, Moore Furniture; rubber pants and gift box, Wolff and Co.; automatic pencil to each of the parents, John Sherk. Mr. and Mrs. Broders must call at the Pioneer Record office for credentials which authorize them to receive the gifts. The Broder’s have two other children, Linda Pearl who will be three in March, and Edward George, 16 months. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. George Broders and Leland Richard.
