First Baby Arrives Jan. 1st.
Tanjie Marie Bainbridge became the winner of the Pioneer Record First Baby of the Year Contest and was named the first baby to be born in Ida Grove for 1976. The birth came at 12:08 p.m. on Jan 1, 1976 at the Horn Memorial Hospital. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bainbridge of Battle Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Bainbridge and little Miss Tanjie will receive prizes from nine Ida Grove merchants totaling over $100. Sponsors of the contest are: Albrecht Pharmacy, J. & J. Supermarket, The Village Green, Moore Furniture, Kris Kringles Kitchen, Hood’s Pharmacy, Bo Peep Shop, Rupp Tire Shop, and Ida County State Bank. Tanjie weighed 7 lbs., 11 ozs. At birth and measured 21 inches in length. There are now three children in the Bainbridge family, all girls. Tanjie has two sisters, Tyann, age 10 and Sheri, age 9. They were both born in January, but neither was a first born winner. The birth was a happy occasion for Mr. and Mrs. Bainbridge. Just a year ago in December, they lost their 3 year-old daughter, Brandi, when she died of leukemia. Grandparents are: Mr. and Mrs. John Fundermann of Battle Creek and Mr. and Mrs. Owen Bainbridge of Anthon. Ida Grove’s first baby was right on target, with due date set at Dec. 31. “We were looking for a 1975 tax deduction, but were thrilled with the celebration surrounding Tanjie’s birth,” related the proud mother.
