OBITUARY.
KINNE.
Howard A. Kinne was born on Jan. 4th, 1839, in Onondaga county, New York, and was the oldest son of Julius and Rachel Kinne, growing to young manhood on a farm near the city of Syracuse. In 1860 he came to Iowa and bought a farm near Freeport, Winneshiek county. He resided in Freeport until 1877, when he purchased a farm in Orleans township, where he resided until seven years ago when he purchased the home in Cresco where he has since lived. He was married in 1860 to Hannah Tobin who survives him. In 1862 he enlisted in the Sixth Iowa Cavalry, seeing service in the Dakota territory in the vicinity of Ft. Ransom. He participated in the battles of Tah-kah-okaty on July 28th, 1864, and the Bad Lands on August 8th and 9th of the same year. He remained in the service until October 17, 1965, when he received his discharge
Mr. Kinne was a faithful member of the G. A. R. post in Cresco, having joined early in the existance{sic} of the organization. He was a regular attendant on church services for a long period of years and united with the Congregational church during Dr. Robertson’s pastorate, his life being a good example of christian{sic} living.
He leaves to mourn his loss a beloved wife, a brother Judge F. D. Kinne of Ann Arbor, Mich, Bud Davis who has been with them since childhood, and still lived on the old farm, and numerous cousins in Decorah, New York State and the west, besides a host of friends and neighbors. Mr. Kinne quietly passed from the scenes of this life on March 19th, 1919.
During the four score years that were allotted to him Mr. Kinne was a man of activity as long as his health permitted. He took a keen interest in the events of the times, and was a sincere advocate of all the things that tended toward the better things of life. He was a loyal son, a devoted husband, a kind and helpful neighbor, and sustained in a worthy manner the best traditions of good citizenship. Added to these qualities was a genial disposition that drew warm and endearing friendships.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Congregational church, Rev. Bockoven officiating, and with interment in Oak Lawn cemetery.
CARD OF THANKS.
We desire to return our sincere thanks to our neighbors and friends for their help and expression of friendship during our recent bereavement.
Mrs. H. A. Kinne and Family.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Oak Lawn shows he was born in 1838 which does not agree with the above.
