Obituary
Mr. Edward O. Joens was born at Fountain Prairie, Columbia county, Wis., Dec. 12, 1852. He was one of six children of the late Owen B. Jones.
He came to this community in 1877 and was a successful farmer in Bristol Grove until 1911 when he and his wife moved to live in Lime Springs. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Jones March 4, 1885. Feb. 15th of this year by the advice of his doctor he went to Rochester for consultation, on the 19th an operation was performed and on the 24th he returned home. His ailment was cancer and he was informed that the case was a hopeless one. He was resigned to the Divine will and patiently waited for the end which came Tuesday evening March 11.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Welch church and took an active interest in all affairs of the church. He was also a member of the city council. He was a man of sterling character. He was of an amiable disposition, kind as a neighborbor{sic} and the home circle was a very happy one. He left a testimony that he was meeting the future with the greatest confidence as he was trusting himself fully in the care of Him who hath promised to care for his people. On his death his beloved wife has met with a great loss, the church has lost a sincere member and the community has been deprived of a loyal citizen. In our loss we have the consolation that death to our departed friend has been an eternal gain. The funeral which was very largely attended, took place last Friday afternoon. Brief service was held at the beautiful home by his pastor after which the remains were moved to the Welsh church where a memorial sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. Shoemaker conducting the opening service. The remains were laid to rest at Pleasant Hill cemetery; Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, one brother Owen R. Jones of Columbia, Wis., two sisters, Mrs. Rob Leurs of Bristol Grove, Mrs. John Williams, Randolph Wis., and a large number of other relatives, all of whom have the sympathy of the community in their great loss and sorrow.
