Dolores Edith Schwade, 96, passed away peacefully at Evans Senior Living Facility on October 14, 2024.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA, with Father Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the start of the service at the church. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Dolores will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco next to her husband, Fredolin.

Dolores Edith Barloon was born June 1, 1928, on a family farm near Little Turkey, Iowa to Frank and Anna (Riha) Barloon. On April 27, 1949, Dolores married Fredolin (Lynn) Schwade at Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey, Iowa. Prior to marriage Dolores worked providing homemaker services to families in the nearby area. After marriage Dolores and Lynn rented a farm near Fort Atkinson for 7 years before buying their farm near Ridgeway, Iowa in 1954. Together, they lived on the farm managing and operating it until they retired and moved to Cresco, Iowa in 1996.

Dolores’s greatest love was for her family. Dolores was dedicated to her husband Lynn of 68 years. She treasured the time spent with her husband, children and their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren and their families. Dolores enjoyed cooking, baking and sharing her food while visiting with family and friends. She especially enjoyed baking traditional Czech kolaches which were so good she was awarded “Best Kolache Maker” at the annual county fair baking contests multiple years. In addition to working many farm activities, she enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing the garden produce, playing cards with neighbors and friends and listening to polka music with Lynn. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 61 years and Notre Dame Catholic Parish for 70 years.

Dolores is survived by her son, Richard “Dick” of Spring Valley, MN and his children Robin(George) Osterhus, and Rhonda (Brian) Williams, step children Jay (special friend Vicki) Ruud, Jamie (Ray) Niewoehner, and Jarett (Kari) Ruud, son Dale (Jeanine) of Lime Springs and their children Marcia (Justin) DeVore, Dean (Libby) Schwade, and son Robert “Bob” (Linda) of Lime Springs, great grandchildren Nick (Emily), Preston, and Shay Osterhus, Skylar (fiancé Nate), Alexis, and Tavja Johnson, Hannah and Jonah DeVore, and Brooke, Kate and Meg Schwade, and step- great grandchildren Cassidy, Cole, Tessa, Dalton, and Jemma Ruud, Jackie Niewoehner and Jade Miller, great great grandchild Emmett Nelson, step great great grandchildren Will, Robert, and Katie Cooper, and her sisters-in-law Alice Barloon, Doris Macal, and Rita Kuehner.

She is preceded in death by her husband Fredolin, parents Frank and Anna, mother-in-law and father-in-law William and Ludmilla Schwade, her sister Helen (Herb) Wenthold, brothers Edward (Mary) Barloon, Arnold Barloon and Joe Barloon, daughter-in-law Julie Schwade and brothers-in-law Ermin (Mary) Schwade, Eugene (Joan) Schwade, Raymond Riehle, Leonard Kuehner, Leonard Macal and sister-in-law Lauretta (Paul) Barta.
