Mrs. Lackore, 81, Dies Saturday
Hayfield: Mrs. Charles H. Lackore, 81, for seventy years a resident here passed away at the Municipal Hospital at Forest City, July 11, where she had been taken a few days earlier for treatment. Death was attributed to the infirmities of old age.
Matilda Johnson, daughter of the late Peter and Anna Johnson, was born June 9, 1872, at Stockholm, Sweden. Her father, a building contractor, came to America with the two older children in 1880 and established a home in Forest City. One year later he sent for the mother and two younger children, one of which was Mrs. Lackore and they soon thereafter established their home here and she had lived here since that time.
She grew to womanhood and attended the schools here and on December 31, 1890 she was united in marriage to Charles H. Lackore then local station agent and business man here. Their first home was in the station here.
They later built their home in the south part of town where the family was reared and where she lived until the death of the husband in 1947 after which the children modernized a smaller home here for her declining years.
Six sons and six daughters were born to this couple. Two daughters died in infancy and one son, Harris, died in 1946.
Surviving are five sons: Clarence and Clayton, of this locality; Earl, of Kansas City, Mo.; Norman, of Leland; and Clark, of Garner; four daughters; Pearl, of Mason City; Gladys (Mrs. John Unruh) of Newton, Kansas; Sylvia (Mrs. Harvey Sorenson) of Miller; and Mabel (Mrs. John Kester) here. One brother, Peter Johnson, of Mason City; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
She was a loving wife and mother, and was devoted to her family. She was a deeply religious and a great Bible student and lived the Christian life.
Funeral rites were conducted from the Methodist church here Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. G. J. Hjedmaas, pastor in charge and interment was made in the Madison Cemetery.
