After An Illness of Two Years, Dr. J. E. Passed on this A. M.

Funeral Arrangements Not Yet Completed, Probably Held Saturday P. M.

Dr. J. E. Fraser passed away this morning at 9 o’clock. Those of our people who were familiar with the physical condition of Dr. Fraser, will not be surprised at this announcement. For a considerable time it has been general information that he could not long withstand the suffering to which he has been subjected in his battle for life with a chronic heart disorder from which he had suffered for the past two years.

For 37 years Garner has been the home of Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Fraser, the doctor having purchased the practice and home of Dr. E. J. Blair in the spring of 1891. All of the years since that time with the exception of the past two, he administered to the physical needs of the people of this section. Severe weather, almost impassable roads, nor any other obstacle prevented him from administering to the sick when he was called, and up until the time of his retirement, there were few, if any, people in the vicinity of Garner who did not know Dr. Fraser, and everyone loved and respected him.

J. E. Fraser was the eldest son of George and Sophia Fraser. He was born in Ogle County, Illinois, August 16, 1861. The days of his youth were spent upon a farm in Illinois. His first higher education was procured at Aurora Seminary, and later he attended Depauw University at Green Castle, Indiana. All of this schooling was preparatory to a medical course which he pursued at the College of Physicians & Surgeons in Chicago, and from which institute he received his degree in 1891. The same year of his graduation he came to Garner and purchased the practice and home of Dr. E. J. Blair, as has been previously stated. The work of securing a permanent location having been accomplished, he returned to Rochelle, Illinois, and on the 29th day of April 1891, he claimed Miss Alfa Stanton of that place as his bride. He and Mrs. Fraser came to Garner forthwith, and this place has been their home ever since.

Two sons were born to Dr. and Mrs. Fraser, Floyd, the oldest son, is at this time at Brandenton, Florida. Cyril, the younger son, is in Monrovia, Liberia, where he has a position with a large rubber growing corporation. On account of the great distance, neither of the boys will be able to attend his funeral.

Dr. Fraser has rendered a real service to this locality. For a number of years, in addition to attending to his regular practice, he served as a member of the board of commissioners of pensions, for 90 years was a member of the Hancock County board of insanity, and for many years was local physician for the Rock Island Railway Company.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, holding membership in Bethel Lodge, Garner.

In addition to his wife and two sons, Dr. Fraser is survived by two brothers and one sister. The brothers are: the Rev. M. E. Fraser of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Howard E. Fraser of Davis Junction, Illinois. The sister, Mrs. E. D. Hull of Norfolk, Nebraska.

Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed as we go to press, but will probably be held Saturday afternoon.
