Former Britt resident, Brent R. Malek of Ankeny, died Thursday, June 29 at his home. He was 18.

Funeral services for Brent Malek were held Sunday, July 2, at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt. The Rev. Susan Detwiler officiated. Music was provided by Brenda Smith.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt, The Ewing Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Tony Hansen, Ryan Malek, Tim Swaney, Jason Malek, Shane Malek, and Russ Swaney.

Brent, the son of Edwin and Sandy (Swaney) Malek was born Feb. 8, 1982 in Britt. He grew up in the Pella and Eagle Grove areas where he attended school. Brent enjoyed fishing, music, camping and tinkering with his car. He also enjoyed paintball competition.

Survivors include his parents, Sandy Malek of Ankeny, and Edwin Malek and his wife, Elaine, of Otley; a sister, Lacey of Otley, a brother, Jamie, and his wife, Shanna, of Pella; two nieces, Jordan and Paighton of Pella, his maternal grandmother, Rose Swaney of Britt; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Clara Malek of Britt; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dale Swaney.
