Thanks so very much for your reply and information. My apologies for not responding sooner as I have been ill.
The burglar was my uncle (by marriage). The police came to question him at his Albert Lea home the next morning and again later that evening. During their second visit city officers as well as Iowa authorities were intending to bring Olson in for questioning. He agreed and went to the bedroom of his tiny house presumably to get his shoes. He reached into the closet, pulled out a gun and shot himself. He died a short time later at the local hospital.
The police found burglary tools at his home and he was apparently a suspect in other robberies.
This was a subject that was never spoken of when I was a child. Now some 55 years later, I am trying to learn a little more about this man. He served his country honorably in WWII. He worked at the local meat packing plant for a number of years. He had been recently divorced and his children lived a distance away. One can only speculate as to his mental status and what he was doing down in Webster City.
I am trying to put together a fair and more complete story of his life. I appreciate the time you took to post this information.
Thank you again,
Rita
