Mrs. Ed Swift is Dead.
Last Sunday, October 17th, Mrs. Ed Swift died at her home at Sterling, Colorado, death being due to consumption. Mr. Swift brought the body to Jewell, their old home, arriving here Tuesday noon. Funeral services were held yesterday, conducted by Rev. Eastvold from Bethesda Norwegian Luth church at ten o'clock in the forenoon, and from the Lutheran church near Radcliffe, by Rev. Hjortholm, of Ellsworth, at two o'clock. The body was interred in the cemetery at the latter place in the family lot.
Mrs. Swift was taken to Colorado by her husband two years ago last April in the hopes that the climate of the western state would relieve her from the dread disease from which she was suffering. Everything that human skill could do however proved unavailing and last Sunday the final summons came.
Hosts of friends in this vicinity, where Mr. and Mrs. Swift have lived practically all their lives, extend to the bereft husband and other members of the family their most sincere and heartfelt sympathy in this sad hour of affliction.
Among the relatives from out of town who were here in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Vikingstad of Elmore, Minn., the deceased's mother; Mrs. Henry Stenberg and Mrs. B. H. Nelson, her sisters, and the latter's daughter, Miss Valberg Nelson, all of Elmore; Mrs. George Peterson of Ellsworth and Mrs. C. L. Lewis of Radcliffe, also sisters, and their husbands; C. M. Stevens of Algona, husband of a sister of Mr. Swift, and his daughter Faith; Mrs. Annie E. Swift of Sterling, Colo., Mr. Swift's mother; Misses Bess and Dorothy Swift of Marshalltown, cousins of Mr. Swift; Mrs. Rebecca Johnson of Roland, and Mrs. Erick Erickson of Story City, cousins of Mrs. Swift, and Mrs. Erickson's mother, Mrs. Nelson; and J. F. McFadden of Algona.
Emila S. Vikingstad was born in Norway July 1, 1877 and died at Sterling, Colorado, October 17, 1909, at the age of 32 years, 2 months and 16 days. She was married March 11, 1901 to Mr. Ed Swift, and with her husband resided here until they removed to Colorado because of her ill health. Since her early girlhood she lived with her parents at or near Ellsworth and had hosts of friends who admired and esteemed her for her numerous womanly graces. Besides the husband she is survived by a mother, four sisters and three brothers. The father and two sisters preceded her to the Great Beyond.
