An Old Settler Gone.

Jared Bonner, well known in Jewell and vicinity died early Tuesday morning. We clip the following from the Freeman: "Another pioneer settler of Hamilton county passes hence. At the home of his son, "Wig" D. Bonner, at Lakin's Grove, at 8 o'clock this morning, Jared Bonner breathed his last, after many months of illness and suffering, at the age of 83 years. Mr. Bonner came to Lakin's Grove, Hamilton county, thirty-one years ago, and has resided there most of the time since. He was among the earliest of the sturdy band of pioneers who settled that part of Hamilton county, and was known and respected in those days in every portion of the country. In later years he suffered much from heart failure and for this reason was seldom seen away from the vicinity of the old homestead. He was a kind hearted man, an unselfish friend and a good neighbor, and all who knew him were his friends. Six sons and their families are left to mourn his departure and to treasure his good name: Wigfall D., Norman, Newton and Lacey of this county; John G., who resides in Nebraska; and George, of Eagle Grove. Thus, one by one, the men and women who came to "these trackless prairies" in thee early days, and helped by their struggles and sacrifices to make Iowa the grand state she has already become, are passing to the mysterious beyond, leaving their children and the newer citizens to take up the work where they left it and push on to a destiny that we of the present day can hardly conceive of.
