Rex C. Robinson Is Called to Final Rest Wednesday

The community was shocked and saddened Wednesday morning by the sudden and unexpected death of Rex C. Robinson, Hampton postmaster, who passed away in his sleep during the night. It is believed death was caused by a blood clot as he had been troubled with phlebitis in a leg for many years. He had been up and around as usual, although not feeling the best for the last few days.

Mr. Robinson was well known throughout Franklin County having been engaged in the banking, abstract and farm loan business for many years before becoming regular postmaster in Hampton on June 1, 1956. Prior to that he had served as acting postmaster from March 1, 1955. He was a native of Franklin County, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George A. Robison. He was born in Hampton November 7, 1894. He was graduated from Hampton high school and attended Cornell College, at Mt. Vernon, after which he returned to Hampton and became affiliated with his father in the Robinson Brothers banking, abstract and farm management business, which was the oldest business institutions in the county, when he gave it up to become postmaster.

He had taken an active part in the business and civic life of the community for many years and had served as a councilman for Hampton for several years. He served with the U. S. Army in World War I, enlisting in June 1917, being attached to Hdq. Co. 109th Detachment. He served overseas in Europe from December 1918 to June 1919. He then returned to Hampton to engage in business with his father. He had served as treasurer for the Iowa Department American Legion for four years and was also active in the George A. Aldinger Post, serving as chaplain of the firing squad for several years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Marguerite Hicks on September 9, 1941, at Mason City, who survives him.

He is also survived by a son George Robinson, of Paxton, Illinois, and by four grandchildren.

Rex was a loyal friend and could always be counted on to support anything that was for the betterment of his home community. He was a member of the Methodist church and had served as a member of the official board and chairman of the finance committee. He was a member of the Rotary Club and chairman of the Salvation Army drives in Hampton for many years.

Funeral services will be conducted by Dr. Wayne E. Shoemaker, pastor of the Methodist Church, at the Greenfield funeral home at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial in Hampton Cemetery.
