No maps or atlases are known for that period.
There are some possibilities to explore. Did they buy land for cash or mortgage and later sell? Records are available if they owned or borrowed for the land at the county level and are microfilmed and indexed.
Another possibility given the time frame is a homestead which was authorized in 1863-64. There are records generated and filmed if that were the case at both local and federal level.
Another possibility is that they rented in which case no specific location may be known unless some mention is made in family documents or in newspapers of the day. Newspapers have been filmed and are available through the Iowa Historical society. Fopr instance an advertisement of an auction to sell may be available in the newspaper.
