I am not a relative but here is the process for post wwII search.
Check a online phone directory for persons of same surname located in same city. Write a letter or call.
Use Social Security Death Index to try to find date of death.
Contact local genealogy society to get a low cost lookup. In Fayette county there are 3. The Oelwein Gen Society is not listed on line but try writing to the library in Oelwein. Be sure to make a donation. Fayette is blessed with a super genealogy society and historical society that has awesome surname clipping files.
If no society, interlibrary loan to your local libray for appropriate newspaper on microfilm.
Iowa newspapers have almost all been filmed.
The Obit will probably tell the names and city of any surviving children. If this fails try getting a list of heirs from a probate file.
Look in surrounding counties too aand larger cities such as Cedar Rapids(Linn County and Waterloo(Black Hawk County).
Chheck the Fayette family history book published by the helpers club- probably out of print.
In the case of Piphos be sure to check sources in Bremer County such as the Sumner Gazette, the 1985 County History
Fayette Queries maintained by Constance Diamond.
