According to Emmet County, Iowa Death Records Royal Eli French died 13 Oct 1936 at age 62 of a cerebral hemmorrhage. His obituary from the Estherville Daily News 13 Oct 1936 follows: ROY E. FRENCH PASSES AWAY, Illness of Two Years Fatal, Roy E. French, 62, died shortly after noon today at his home after an illness of two years. He had been a barber in Estherville for 26 years before suffering a stroke two years ago which forced him to retire. He came to Estherville from Spirit Lake. Mr. French was born in Jones county, Iowa, and moved from there to Clay county with his grandparents who cared for him following the death of both his parents when he was four years old. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs.L. L. Jones of Estherville and Mrs. R. M. Buter of Cherokee, and one son, Irvin French of Estherville. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
