In the Name of God, Amen:
I, J. A. Larson Sr. of Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my last will and testament.
First: It is my will that any indebtedness which I may have at the time of my death shall first be paid out of my estate.
Second: Subject to the above, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Carolina C. Larson all of my property, real estate and personal of whatsoever kind and description, for her use and occupancy during her natural life, but it is my wish and I hereby make it a condition that my sister Mary Larson shall have during her life time a full and equal right to occupy my homestead as a home for her together with my wife. My intention being that the survivor of them shall have and enjoy the same privelege as is herein set out and granted to them jointly.
Third: After the death of my wife and sister above named I direct that the said property be sold by my executor hereinafter named, and that out of the proceeds of such sale, shall first be paid to my son J. A. Larson Jr. such amount, as may from time to time have been by him advanced to me, and his own statement of such amount with which he has assisted me, shall be accepted as correct, and such claim allowed without any further evidence of such indebtedness. The balance of said proceeds shall be divided equally among my following mamed children viz: John A. Larson, Ida Sophia Johnson and Maria Christena Lundberg, share and share alike.
But as I have heretofore assisted my son in law John Lundberg by becoming surety on a certain promissory note for $100.00 payable to Anna L. Anderson, bearing date Oct. 6th, 1892 bearing interest at the rate of 7% per annum executed by myself and my wife, but which amount was received by said John Lundberg and upon which he has paid only one year's interest, the balance of the interest paid has been paid by my self or my son J. A. Larson. I hereby further provide that out of the share allotted to my daughter Maria Christina Lundberg, said note shall be paid to the holder thereof such amount as may be due thereon, and to my son J. A. Larson the amount which has been paid out as interest on said note by him.
Fourth: I hereby appoint my son J. A. Larson executor of this my last will and testament, and having full faith and confidence in him, I desire that no bond shall be required of him for the faithful performance of the duties hereby imposed upon him.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of December, 1897
