Leslie Harold Chopard, 89, passed into the presence of the Lord, whom he loved, on October 28. He was born in Manchester, Iowa in 1923.
Leslie enlisted in the Army Air Corps the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He flew 120 missions in the European Theater, including the invasion at Normandy.
After his discharge he enrolled in Emmons Bible College in Toronto, Canada. In 1958 his family of four left for Laos where they served as missionaries until 1974. Upon return to the United States he served as a hospital chaplain in Des Moines, Washington until his retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma, sister Irene Livingston, daughters Carolyn Mata and Connie Getchman, and grandchildren Stanley and Darrin Getchman.
Services will be November 17 in Des Moines, Washington.
