Juanita Hatcher Graves was born April 26, 1911, in Cooper, (Greene County), Iowa to Elmer A. and Minnie (Keown) Hatcher and died May 23, 1987, at the Decatur County Hospital, Leon, Iowa. Juanita spent her childhood on a farm south of Davis City, Iowa. She attended Bonnett School and graduated from Davis City High School.
Juanita was united in marriage to Forrest W. Graves on Aug. 15, 1931, in Bethany, Mo. To this union were born six children. She and Forrest spent most of their lives on farms in Decatur County, Iowa. They operated a restaurant in Lamoni for 7 1/2 years. Juanita was also employed as a cook at Graceland College in Lamoni until retirement.
She was baptized into the United Methodist Church on April 10, 1977.
Preceding her in death were her parents; 3 brothers: Richard, Ollis, and Wayne; 3 sisters: Thelma, Samuela, and Belva; and 3 grandchildren: James Ray, Brenda Kay, and Linda Sue. Survivors include her husband, Forrest, of Lamoni; 6 children: Jimmie L. of Henderson, Nv.; Gary L., Elkhorn, Ne.; Marilyn J. Cassidy, Colorado Springs, Co.; Linda K. Burk, Davis City, Iowa; Lucille M. Fry, Carterville, Il.; and Sandra L. Riley, Acton, Ca.; 2 brothers: Lee Hatcher, Humbolt, Iowa and Jack Hatcher, Webster City, Iowa; 4 sisters: Margaret Hamilton and Vava Boswell, both of Lamoni; Madolyn Bottoms of Opelika, Al; and Elaine Lynch, Port Angeles, Wa.; 29 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
