Death of Corporal Winchell

CAMP WILSON, Mo., June 25, 1861
At a meeting of the Clinton County Guards, on Friday, June 25th, 1861, a committee of five were appointed to draft a resolution expressive of the deep regret incurred at the death of our comrade, Corporal A. E. WINCHELL, who departed this life from the effects of a wound, occasioned by the accidental discharge of a gun, on Saturday, June 22d, 1861.
WHEREAS, It has please a Divine Providence to remove from our midst, in the spring time of youth, our companion and much endeared friend, ALBERT E. WINCHELL, by the ruthless hand of death, while engaged in a cause dear to all patriotic and Union loving citizens, the maintenance of our country's honor, and the defense of her flag; therefore,
Resolved, That we deeply deplore the accident that removed him hence, and that it is our conviction that in his untimely death we have experienced the loss of a dear friend, and a kind and gentle companion; the army a true and brave man, in every respect a SOLDIER; and his family a dutiful son and affectionate brother, and that we earnestly sympathize and condole with them in their bereavement.
Resolved, That, trusting, through the aid of our Heavenly Father, to meet him in a world of peace and happiness, we evince our regrets at his death by earing the usual badge of mourning.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the family of the deceased, and to the Clinton County papers for publication.
