Final rites were held here Monday afternoon for Floyd A. Hickman, 59, Elkader druggist who died Friday afternoon, March 18, at Methodist hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, following a brief illness. Services were conducted from the Elkader Congregational church at 2 o'clock with interment being in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. David G. Rowell, local pastor, and the Rev. Charles G. Fort, of Sheffield, Iowa, officiated at the services.

Elkader stores and business places were closed during the services.

Hickman was born January 24, 1896, at Winthrop and was a son of James H. and Mary Slaughter Hickman. His father, now 92, is still living. He attended the Winthrop schools and studied one year at Grinnell college before joining the Navy during World War I. After the war he received a degree in pharmacy at Highland Park college of pharmacy at Des Moines University.

On October 16, 1925 he was united in marriage to Miss Irene Dilley, at Anamosa, Iowa. The couple made their home in Manchester where Hickman operated a drug store. In December 1938 the Hickmans' moved to Elkader where several years later Hickman, in partnership with Lyle Webster, purchased the store known as "Hagensick Drug."

Later Hickman purchased his partner's interest and since then has operated the store alone. He served two terms on the Elkader school board. He was a member of the American Legion.

Besides his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Beverly) Klink of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Roy C. (Faye) Johnson and Mrs.(next four or five words are unreadable) pf Minneapolis, Minn. In addition to his father, whose home is at Winthrop, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Carrie McCay and Mrs. Coe Braden, both of Winthrop and Mrs. Charles G. Fort of Sheffield. There are four brothers, Harry J. and Joe L., both of Winthrop, Fred E. of Battle Creek, Michigan and Ned A. of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Pallbearers were five nephews, George Hickman, Kenneth Braden, Bill Hickman, Robert Hickman, and Don Hickman and a foster son, Frank Gilson.

Many friends and relatives from Winthrop, Manchester and Dubuque were in attendance at the funeral. One sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Coe Braden, who were in Arcadia, Florida, were unable to arrive home in time.
