Torvald A. Holm was born on May 11, 1877, in Marion township, Clayton county, to Asle and Sigrid Olson Holm, and died at the Postville hospital Sunday evening, Feb. 20, at the age of seventy-seven years, nine months and nine days.

On Saturday morning, Feb. 19, he became suddenly ill and was taken to the Postville hospital. His condition remained unchanged until Sunday evening at about 8 o'clock, he suffered a severe heart attack.

He was baptized and a member of the Marion Lutheran church. On Feb. 03, 1905, he was united in marriage to Kjerste Landsgaard, and to this union was born one son Selmer. Mr. Holm was engaged in farming 43 years in Highland township until in 1951, when he moved with his son and family to Gunder. He had made his home with them for the past 19 years.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, three grandchildren, Mrs. David C. Taylor, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. L. E. Lenth, Coronado, Calif.; S. Roger Holm, Elgin, Iowa, who is in the U.S. Navy; two great-grandchildren, Richard and Bruce Lenth; two half-sisters, Mrs. John Folta, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Gerald Texaly, Westchester, Ill.; one half-brother, Otto B. Olson, Waterloo, Iowa, and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in July, 1936, his parents, four sisters, one half-sister, three brothers and one half-brother.

Funeral services were held at the Muehlethaler funeral home at Elgin at 1:30 o'clock Thursday, Feb. 24, followed by services at the Marion Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Mrs. Woodrow Reed sang a solo at the funeral home and music at the church was furnished by the Marion choir. Burial was made in the Marion church cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews: Wm. Torkelson, Merrill Olson, Kenneth, Mork, Gunnar Landsgaard, Olvin Olson and Alvin Jensen.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. David C. Taylor, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Chris Holm, Bemid__, Minn.; Otto B. Olson, Mrs. Emma Olson, Mrs. Asle Olson, Mrs. L____ Hyde and Loyd Olson, all of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jensen, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Ed Bracen and daughter Yvonne, Durand, Ill. Others attending were from St. Olaf, Elkader, Elgin, Fayette, West Union, Clermont, and Postville.
