Frank LeMerton Barnard, son of Merton Long Barnard and Floy Clara Cellman Barnard was born November 14, 1918 in Jamison, Iowa and passed from this life October 28, 2012 in Osceola at 93 years of age.
Frank attended country school at Jamison and Pleasant Valley before graduating from New Virginia High School in 1936. Frank farmed with his father until he went into the service in 1942. He served during World War II with the United States Army 422nd Medical Collection Company, returning in 1946. In 1947, he was united in marriage to Gweneth Hylton, and they lived in New Virginia.
Frank worked his lifetime as a farmer until he retired in 1984 and moved to Osceola. He was also a substitute rural mail carrier and later assisted an electrician. Frank was involved in his community and actively served his church. He was also a member of the New Virginia Lion's Club, American Legion Post #281, New Virginia and Interstate 35 School Boards, and served on numerous township and county boards. Frank enjoyed singing, woodworking, fishing, golfing, the St. Louis Cardinals, and traveling.
Those relatives who preceded Frank in death were his parents and wife.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory; children, Kay (Jerry) Marso of Waukee; Sandra (Steve) Lathrum of St. Charles; Stanley (Connie) Barnard of Urbandale; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Amy) Marso of Onalaska, WI; Lori (David) Cuomo of Towson, MD; Kari (Jeff) Dawson of Norwalk; Rich Lathrum of St. Charles; Chad (Angie) Barnard of Clive; Jenna (Abraham) Theoflo of Urbandale; Nicholas Barnard of Iowa City; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Eldon (Marian) Barnard; and sisters, Jean Henrichs of New Virginia, Marion Akes of Osceola, Margaret (Warren) Moore of Omaha; and sister-in-law, Edith Moore of Ft. Collins, CO.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012 at New Virginia United Methodist Church. Visitation is open at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Wednesday with the family present 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in New Virginia cemetery.
