Lalia Lucille Ashby, daughter of Leonard Thomas and Flossie Marie Walker Thomas was born August 29, 1921 in Centerville, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, March 23, 2012 at Afton Care Center in Afton, Iowa at 90 years of age.
Lucille received her education in the Udell school near Centerville. She was united in marriage to George William Ashby on June 2, 1940 at Unionville, MO, and eight children blessed this union.
Lucille spent many years working at the Murray Meal Site and had also worked for New Oaks Care Center in Des Moines for a number of years.
Lucille thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren, her family and her Bible. She also loved her flowers, gardening and was a caretaker of many of her family over the years. She was known among her family as a fantastic cook! Her noodles and pies were some of her specialties. Lucille could literally take anything and make something great from it.
Those relatives who preceded Lucille in death were her husband, George William Ashby; parents, Leonard and Flossie Marie Thomas; brother, Yvon Thomas; brother, Kenneth Thomas; sister, Neomi Thomas; sister, Odetta Thomas; sister, Joan Jay-Richardson; son, George Eddy Ashby; grandsons, Bobby Lee Ashby and David Frees.
She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Peggy (Ed) Otto of Murray; son, Bob (Carol) Ashby of Murray; son, Steve Ashby of Murray; son, Rick (Carol) Ashby of Truro; son, Doyle (Deb) Ashby of St. Charles; son, Jim (Dee) Ashby of Winterset; son, Terry (Carole) Ashby of Murray; twenty-seven grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Parks of Murray; brother, Delbert (Ethel) Thomas of Seymour, TN; sister-in-law, Bessie Thomas of Buffalo, MO; as well as other relatives and many friends.
