Hi Fred,
You may have a lot of this if not all but am sending on what I can find. Ancestry.com has two civil war databases on Richard L. Bean. One has:
Name: Richard L Bean ,
Residence: Nashua, Iowa
Enlistment Date: 22 September 1862
Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
Side Served: Union
State Served: Iowa
Unit Numbers: 178 178
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 22 September 1862 at the age of 42
Enlisted in Company C, 6th Cavalry Regiment Iowa on 22 September 1862.
Received a disability discharge Company C, 6th Cavalry Regiment Iowa on 21 April 1863
The other has:
Name: Richard L. Bean
Company: C
Unit: 11 Mississippi Infantry.
Rank - Induction: Sergeant
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Confederate
Notes: R. L. Bean
In addition, ancestry.com has reference to a Richard L. Bean who appears on Tennessee Confederates Pension applications with a widow named Nora.
From various records: Richard L. Bean b. 5 Jan 1808 (WPA), Windsor, Vermont, 1804 (1860 Census, Vermont), died 1-16-1869, buried Oak Hill; wife Sarah Cook Bean, b. 1812 (WPA) 1816 (1860 Census), d. 1895. Served in 6th Iowa Cavalry, Company C. Son Richard Rufus served 27th Iowa Infantry, Company G. 1860 census (Bradford, Chickasaw County, Iowa) has he and Sarah with these children: Henry, Levi, Richard, George, Hoolten (?), Samuel, Ellen, Lucinda, Andrew although Andrew may be a son to Lucinda.
