MISS JULIA ALTWEIS

Miss Julia Altweis died at the home of the editor hereof, at 5:30, Friday afternoon. For the past eight or nine months she had suffered intensely from a cancer and death was welcomes as the only relief she could hope for from agonies that were almost beyond human endurance.

Miss Altweis was born at Concord, Wisconsin, in 1856. Her parents died during her early girlhood and the little family of children were separated to find homes with relatives and friends, Julia going to Independence, Ia., where in 1873 she entered the home of the late Wm. Toman, since when, with the exception of a few months, she has continued a member of that family and those of the children of the same. With the family in which so large a portion of her life was spent, her devotion and fealty won for her a place in the hearts of its members as secure as though it were bound by ties of blood. Only as a daughter could she ministered to the family in sickness, giving such service as is only prompted by love, and as a daughter of the family she shared in its pleasures and rejoiced with it in health.

She was an earnest and consistent member of the Episcopal Church and as such her life has been a bright and shining example of practical Christianity and an inspiration to her fellow members.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, the service being conducted by Rev. Ferris, of the Congregational church and the body was interred in Oak Hill Cemetery.
