Albert Bilsland, 82, of Marcus died Friday, May 1, 1998, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Services will be on Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. Burial will be in the Marcus-Amherst Cemetery.
Mr. Bilsland was born Jan. 6, 1916, at Sheldon, Iowa. He was the son of John and Sadie (Mastbergen) Bilsland. He attended Carroll Township Country School and Sheldon High School. He married Edith Heiliger on Feb. 8, 1940, at Primghar. They farmed nine years near Sheldon and then moved to Marcus. They farmed north of Marcus for many years and moved to town in 1969. Albert retired from farming in 1981. He then worked at the Marcus lumber Company and for Gross Implement Co. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and had made some thirty fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed card playing and visiting with friends.
He has been a resident of the Heartland Care Center since April 1997. He was a member of the Grace united Methodist Church, and Farm Bureau. He had been a past boy scout leader and had worked many years at the Methodist Food Stand at the Marcus Fair.
Survivors include his wife Edith of Marcus; a son, James and his wife Helen of Sioux City; a daughter, JoAnne and her husband Larry Day of Sergeant Bluff; a sister, Bea and her husband Vance Tara of Aptos, Ca.; four grandchildren, Tami and her husband Randy Fairbanks, Ed and wife Brenda Bilsland, Susan and husband Craig Pedersen and Sandra and husband Brent Reinking; and five great-grandchildren.
