CHALMERS

Died, at the residence of James Henderson, Cherokee, Iowa, on Sunday, May 30, 1886, at 7 o’clock A.M., of old age, Barbara Chalmers, aged 92 years.

The deceased was a native of Scotland, and for the past 37 years has made her home with the family of James Henderson, to the members of which she had become greatly attached and endeared. She was a lady of fine mind and a noble and generous heart, beloved by all who have known her during her long residence in this county. When only 13 years of age she taught a school in Scotland and supported her then invalid mother. Her mind was clear to the end, and from a long life of usefulness she passed peacefully to rest.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mr. Henderson and the remains laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Source: The Weekly Cherokean, Cherokee, IA., Tues., June 1, 1886, pg. 1)
