Following marriage, they moved to Illinois for a short time, then to Iowa approximately one year, before settling in the Colby, Kansas area. Don Worked for Vacin Farms Inc, in Colby for 32 years and Hills Farms prior to moving to Northwest Arkansas.
While in Colby, Marlys fed not only her family but also the farmhands who were hired for help on the farm. She was then hired on at the Colby Public Schools as a baker. Don and Marlys were members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Marlys was a member of the Altar Society and later sang in the choir.
It was very bittersweet when they moved to NW Arkansas and left so many very close friends, neighbors, and friends behind, to be closer to their son and his family in 1990. While living in Rogers, AR, Marlys also worked in the Bentonville Schools as a cook for several years before retiring.
