Doris L. Mummert, 78, of Cherokee died Monday, April 5, 1999, at her home following an illness of cancer.
Services will be Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee. Burial will be Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee.
Mrs. Mummert was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Sioux Falls to John and Doris (Allen) Sorrell. She attended Cherokee schools and graduated from Wilson High School in 1938.
She married Billie Mummert on June 18, 1943, in Cherokee.
She taught school in Silver Township and also worked for J.C. Penney Co. and Klatt's Gift Store in Cherokee. She lived in Cherokee since 1989 and had lived on a farm in rural Aurelia, Iowa, prior to that.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she was in the church choir and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the PAL Club, the F.A.C., the Alta Square Dancers and 013 Stateline Travelers.
She enjoyed genealogy, square dancing and round dancing, camping, fishing, painting, crossword puzzles and solitaire, playing the organ and her family. She helped with "Meals on Wheels" and the Siouxland Blood Bank.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Roger Schulz of Lafayette, Calif.; a son and his wife, Michael and Barbara of Aurelia; four grandchildren, Marilyn, Todd, Gregg and Robin and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Frances Runnings.
