Looking for any information on a Barker family who resided in Mason City for at least two generations.
John C. and (I believe) Elizabeth A. Barker lived in Grant Township and had several children, the oldest two being George F. and William H. (who I believe went by the name Harry W. later in life). In the 1880 census, John is listed as a farmer and both he and his wife were from Canada. I think John worked as a vet later on.
Harry W. married a Jeanette or Janette in 1906, briefly moved from Iowa to Minnesota where two of their children (Marion L. and Glenn) were born and then moved back to Mason City where a third son, Richard, was born. Harry was a salesman in the lumber industry and possibly owned his own business for a while. (Most of this info is from the 1930 census).
I'm particularly interested in Marion L. who went by the name Leonard Marion Barker during at least the early part of his life. He went to Yale Drama School, worked as a stagehand in Chicago, supposedly played the violin and had some formal training in engineering. He was briefly married to Sarah Hodges (my grandmother) who he met at Yale, but the couple was soon divorced and never kept in contact.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
