Funeral services for John V. Hipple, 78, Tipton, were held Aug. 8, 1989 at the Red Oak church with the Rev. Gerald Ukena officiating. Dorothy Harmsen was the organist and pallbearers were Joe McElhinney, Jack DeSotel, Robert Jacobsen, Randy Mathias, Roger Timm and Gilbert Behrens. Honorary bearers were Cecil Mathias and Robert Albaugh. Burial was in the Red Oak cemetery.

Mr. Hipple died Aug. 4 at University hospitals in Iowa City following a short illness.

The son of Forrest and Lydia Woode Hipple, he was born March 18, 1911 in Tipton. He attended the rural Cedar county schools and married Lillian M. Schlicht April 29, 1937 in Woodstock, Ill.

Mr. Hipple was a retired farmer and worked part-time at Edler Implement Co. in Tipton. He was a member of the Odd Fellows organization and the Red Oak church.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Donald, Tipton; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Cone, Tipton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
