Funeral services for Alfred Wayne Rogers, 74, West Branch, were held July 22, 1989 at the West Branch Friends church, with Keith Haworth officiating. Mrs. Mildred Gregory was the organist and pallbearers were Homer Gibson, Roger Cozine, James Holmes, Steve Hemingway, Leroy Albaugh and Lee Seigling. Burial with military honors was in the West Branch cemetery. The West Branch Chapel of the Barker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established for the West Branch Boy Scout program.
Mr. Rogers died July 20 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness.
The son of Norman and Maude Gibson Rogers, he was born May 24, 1915 in Iowa City. He married Elizabeth Trafford Jan. 18, 1947 in Iowa City.
Mr. Rogers was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Chauncy Butler American Legon of West Branch, the West Branch Heritage Foundation and the Iowa City Odd Fellows. For several years he was active in the West Branch Boy Scout program and he helped establish the Hoover Trail. He was also a member of the Old Capitol Geological club and a member of the Camera club.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Meisner, West Branch; 3 sons, Charles, Yellville, Ark.; Phillip, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Iceland, and Glenn, Iowa City; a sister, Mrs. Lorena Donohoe, Iowa City; 8 grandchildren and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
