Last rites for Alfred F. Meyer, 89, were held at the Stanwood Union church Dec. 9 with the Rev. Susan Detweiler officiating. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark, Kent and Phillip Meyer, Brian and Brent Montz and Tom Hanna. Jo Brown was organist. Vocalists were the Tri-Tones with Theda Rouse as accompanist. Masonic services by Fremont lodge were held Dec. 8.
Mr. Meyer died at the Clarence Nursing home Dec. 6. He had been a resident of the home for a year.
The son of Louie and Lena Haesemeyer Meyer, he was born at Stanwood Aug. 19, 1899. He married Ida Baker Aug. 23, 1923. She died in April 1974.
Mr. Meyer was a farmer, later selling insurance. He was an original member of the board of directors of the area REC, serving on the board for 48 years. He was a member of Union church, the Stanwood Lions, a 66-year member of the Fremont Masonic lodge and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruth Montz, Mechanicsville; a son, Kenneth, Stanwood; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Elmer and L. W., Stanwood and a sister, Vil Hartog, Tipton. He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Herbert and a sister, Pauline.
