Funeral services for Elmer L. (Butch) McQuillen, 87, Bennett, were held July 1, 1988 at the First United Church of Christ in Tipton, with the Rev. Donald Cardella officiating. Joyce Eilers was the organist and pallbearers were Dwain Motz, Glenn Siebel, Mark Regennitter, Fred Horstmann, Terry Hein and Steve Boedeker. Honorary bearers were Roland Hambright and Harley Steinke. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. McQuillen died June 28 at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids.

The son of Elmer E. and Mary Stutler McQuillen, he was born April 29, 1901 in Bennett. He attended rural Cedar county schools and married Verna Pahl April 25, 1924 in Martelle. He was a mechanic and a 50 year member of the Bennett fire department.

Mr. McQuillen is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Mrs. Esther Clemens, Muscatine and Mrs. Norris (Jane) Gronert, Marion; 2 sons, Wayne and Lyle, both of Bennett; one sister, Irma Oellrich, Robins; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
