John Scott DeVries
(October 27, 1954 - October 16, 2024)

Scott DeVries age 69 of Lake City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA. John Scott DeVries was born on October 27, 1954, to parents John and Doris (Kral) DeVries in Lake City. He grew up in Lake City and graduated from Westview High School in Lake City. After graduation, Scott went on to continue his education at the Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. Scott was very involved with the Woodlawn Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, memorial committee, and property chair. In his free time, you could find Scott reading, working on puzzles, and scrapbooking. Scott was a community man spending 45 years as the property/maintenance manager at the Stewart Memorial Community Hospital. He was a part of the Top Rail Saddle Club, Jaycees, and Boy Scouts, and was in a bowling league. A few years back he received a yard work service award. In September 2003 he married Maryls Detterman and they later separated. He enjoyed working with his nephews, nieces, and extended family members. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings: Jerry (Norma) DeVries of Lake City, Iowa, Rod (Joni) DeVries of Ankeny, Iowa, Denise (Bill) Bird of Greenridge, MO; 8 nephews and nieces; 10 great-nephews and great-nieces. Scott was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City, Iowa, with burial in the Cottonwood Cemetery. The Visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Lampe & Powers Funeral Home. In Scott's name, memorials may be directed to the Woodlawn Christian Church Stain Glass Restoration Project.
