Wilbur Joseph Wiederin
(April 13, 1926 - November 17, 2024)Wilbur Wiederin, age 98 of Lake City, IA, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Journey Senior Services in Carroll, IA. Wilbur Joseph was born on April 13, 1926, to parents John and Theresa (Kramer) Wiederin in Carroll. He grew up in the Carroll area and attended grade school at Mt. Carmel up until the eighth grade. On May 5, 1945, Wilbur was drafted to serve his country in the United States Army, serving during World War II. He earned the rank of Private First Class and special honors as a Military Policeman. He was honorably discharged on January 22, 1947. On April 11, 1959, Wilbur was united in marriage to the love of his life, Agnes Boeckman at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA. Together they were blessed with seven children: Judy, Joseph, Becky, Monica, Harold, Loran, and Ranee. They raised their family in Lake City where Wilbur farmed up until his retirement in 1999. In his free time, Wilbur enjoyed playing cards and euchre, going fishing locally, and driving around to look at fields. He cherished his family and loved watching his grandchildren’s school sporting events and concerts. Wilbur was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W., and the Holy Men’s Club. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years Agnes Wiederin of Lake City, IA; children: Judy (David) McDaniel of Boone, IA, Joseph (Georgia) Wiederin of Lake City, IA, Becky (Dave) Daniel of Lake City, IA, Monica (Joel) Wuebker of Rockwell City, IA, Harold (Christine) Wiederin of Lake City, IA, Loran (Kathy) Wiederin of Jefferson, IA, and Ranee (Ryan) Sackfield of Lohrville, IA; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Iola Hoogestrat of Carroll, IA, Loraine Danner of Carroll, IA, and Ralph (Helen) Wiederin of Carroll, IA; several extended family members and friends. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren: Robert Huisinga; great-granddaughter Jessica Pickering; great-great granddaughter Mariah Pickering; and siblings: Thelma, Linus, Alfred, Harold, and Floyd. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake City, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 4:30 p.m., and Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Graveside Military Rites will take place in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery Lake City, IA.
