George W. Maxwell, a driver living at New Hartford, Iowa, while returning on horseback from Cedar Falls at one o’clock Friday morning, was attacked by two men, who evidently though he had a large sum of money in his possession. He made a desperate resistance and escaped uninjured. They attempted to drag him from his horse, and while doing so one of them stabbed him, but the knife was turned aside by a large pocket book in his inside pocket. Maxwell got out of their clutches and put spurs to his horse. The ruffians than fired two shots at him, one passing through his hat and the other lodging in his saddle. Maxwell had been to Cedar Falls with stock, but received no money for them, and had only $20 in his pocket.
