On Wednesday afternoon, April 25 1900, occurred the first death in our town, Mrs. Johanna Petterson quietly sinking, passed to her heavenly reward, from the home of her son, John Sundblad, with whom she had lived for the last nine years. She was the oldest person in the town.
Mrs. Petterson was born in Sweden, August 29, 1827. At 19 years of age she married Carl Gustaf Sundblad, who died in 1875. In 1877 she married John Petterson, who died December 10, 1897.
Mrs. Petterson had nine children, only three of whom are living, her son John, and two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Johnson, living near town, and Mrs. Oscar Anderson of Chicago. Mrs. Petterson came to America in 1888, and has since always lived in Fairfield township. She moved into Albert City, with her son, February 15, 1900, and in two days took to her bed, where she has, for ten weeks been patiently lying, her disease seeming to be general weakness and old age. Rev C. Liljekvist, pastor of the Free Mission Church, with which she was identified, conducted the funeral services, which were held at the home of her son, on Thursday afternoon, April 20, 1900. She was laid to rest in Fairfield township cemetery. Thus has passed away a worthy woman, loved and respected by all.
