Donald R. Melka, 74, died Saturday afternoon, May 6, 2000, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, of cancer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; three children and their spouses, James and Kathy Melka of Janesville, Wis., Joni and Bob Hocken of Independence and Kris and Steve Shonka of Rowley; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Glenda Nabholz and Dorothy Schmidt, both of Independence, Velma Nabholz of Mayo, Fla., and Opal Hirsch of Waterloo.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, by the Rev. Perry Fruhling. Burial: Floral Hills Cemetery, Hazleton. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Independence, where a military memorial service begins at 7:30 p.m.
