John Savage and Clem McCarten, of this city, were victims of a bold hold up while on their way to Sioux City about ten days ago, having arrived home. Both men were boldly robbed of their cash and watches, and then ordered to jump from the train, which they did. The robbers went on and were not caught, but two bold crooks arrested at Sioux City Saturday are undoubtedly the are the same men, and our two townsmen, McCarten and Savage, may have the satisfaction of testifying against them and see that they get their just desserts. The Sioux City Journal referring to the arrest and robbery of the two Dubuque men from Dubuque says:

Hayden and Henry, the highwaymen who shortly after midnight yesterday morning held up a half dozen harvest hand in the Milwaukee track yards in Sioux City, may be the two men who a week ago boarded a freight train on the Northwestern, west of Bell Plaine, robbed several harvest hands there and finally ran up against a man who fought so hard that they shot him four times and threw his body from the train.

Hayden and Henry and the Belle Plaine pair were out after the same kind of game. They worked with equal rapidity and in the same brutal manner. More than that, the description of the Belle Plaine murders fit Hayden and Henry. One of the Belle Plaine men was described as being 5 foot 8 inches in height, which is the height of Henry; the other is said to be shorter and stouter, and that fits the brutal Hayden, who yesterday morning stuck his revolver against the teeth of Clinton A. Crabb, ran the revolver barrel down his throat, kicked him in the stomach and then was about to cut off Crabb’s finger to get a ring, when his confederate protested.

Before the harvest hand on the train was murdered the two men robbed two other men of $14 and then compelled them at the point of their revolvers to jump off. The train was moving at a great rate of speed and the victims were badly bruised. These men were from Dubuque.

At Sioux City police headquarters last night the belief among the officers that Hayden and Henry might be the Belle Plaine robbers and murderers was general.
