Services Held In
Moulton SundayJ. B. Strohmier, long time and well known resident of Moulton, pased away at his home in Moulton last Wednesday afternoon following an extended illness.
Mr. Strohmier was born on August 28, 1878 in Greisback, Bavaria, Germany, and was the son of John and Helena Strohmier.
He immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1887 and settled in Hayes, Kans. He was married to Ruby Blevins on June 15, 1908, in Moulton. He is survived by his widow,
Ruby Blevins Strohmier; a son, John Byron Strohmier, Jr., Livonia, Mich.; two brothers, Martin of Hayes, Kans., and Tom, of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Helena Wolz of Ashland, Oregon and one granddaughter, Sandra; of Detroit, Mich.
Mr. Strohmier began his railroading career in Wyoming, where he worked for the Union Pacific R. R. He was later employed by the Wabash at Moberly, Mo., going there in 1904. On October 15, 1919, he moved to Moulton, where he continued
as an employee of the Wabash until he retired in 1941 after 44 years of faithful service.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. In early life Mr. Strohmier had a hobby of raising flowers and for many years during his residence in Moulton, countless
people visited his gardens to admire and enjoy the rows of pretty blooms that were raised in abundance. About five years ago, he gave up this hobby due to ill health. Many knew Mr. Strohmier and admired his strict policy of honesty. His personality was such that he made many acquaintances who later became his firm friends.
Funeral services were held at the Eagle Funeral Home in Moulton Sunday conducted by Rev. Raymond Moore, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was in Oakland cemetery.Card of Thanks

Dies At Age
Of 75 YearsFlora Fredricka Smethers Blevins was born in Pendleton, Indiana, Apr 27, 1864, to Caroline and Henry Smethers and passed away at
Pontiac, Michigan, December 14, 1939, being 75 years, 7 months and 17 days old.
She was married to Hugh Madison Blevins, Nov. 29, 1883, at Gregory, Mo. The family moved to Moulton in December, 1899 where they have
since resided. She united with the Christian church in Canton, Mo., in 1893 and coming to Moulton affiliated with the Methodist church.
On November 16 she started for Detroit to visit her sons, Raymond and Harold, and grandsons, Byron Strohmier and Dick Blevins. On December
2 she was stricken with illness and on December 12 she was taken to the hospital where she passed away at 12:15 a. m., December 14. There was nothing that medical science could do for her. She had been in failing health for years but would never give up.
Funeral services were held at the Farmers Funeral Home at 8:00 p. m. by pastor Rev. Merton L. Stevens, Thursday, December 14, at Pontiac,
Michigan. The body was then brought to Moulton, Iowa, by her sons, Raymond and wife and Harold. Services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p. m. at the Hitchcock Funeral Home, by Rev. Luther
Childs, of Centerville. Burial was at Oakland cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond, Pontiac, Mich., and Harold, of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Nell Epps, Des Moines, and Mrs. Ruby
Strohmier, of Moulton; three grandchildren, Byron Strohmier, Dick Blevins and Raymetta Darling, also survive.
One brother, Charles Baker, Queen City, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. George Davis, Worthington, Mo., and Mrs. Fannie Gillispie, Queen City, Mo. Besides a host of nieces and nephews and friends also mourn her loss. The husband passed away February 20, 1939.Card of Thanks

Services To Be TodayWELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF
COMMUNITY DIES MONDAY
AT AGE OF 79 YEARSFuneral services for Hugh Blevins, who passed away Monday morning, will be held from the Hitchcock Funeral Home today (Thursday) at
2:00 o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. E. W. Frohardt, pastor of the local Methodist church. Burial will be at Oakland cemetery.
Mr. Blevins had been in failing health for some time and suffered a stroke last Friday. Medical aid was of little assistance and he passed
away Monday morning.
Hugh Blevins was born April 11, 1859, near Keokuk, Iowa, in Lee county, the son of William and Tooley Blevins. He passed away at his home in
Moulton, February 20, 1939 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 9 days.
He was married to Flora Fredricka Smethers at Gregory, Mo., November 29, 1883. The family moved to Moulton in December, 1899, where they have since resided. Mr. Blevins had been an old and trusted employee of the Wabash railway for many years. He was retired by the company some eight years ago and has since that time been receiving a pension for the faithful service he had given through the years past,
He is survived by two sons, Raymond, of Pontiac, Mich., and Harold, of Detroit, Mich., two daughters Mrs. Nellie Epps, of Des Moines, and
Mrs. Ruby Strohmier, of Moulton.
Three granchildren besides other relatives and friends also survive.
