This business was located in the Allamakee County area from approximately 1890-1926. I need the first names of the owner/owners in order to do family research. All I have from Payne Quality Photo is a 1903 newspaper advertisement from the Waukon paper at that time and a 1916 postcard sent to clients wishing them a Happy New Year; it is a scene of a man sitting near Quandahl, Iowa. I have checked the 1900, 1910, 1920, US Censuses and no luck to find their first names or business as a photographer. In the history books of Allamakee, Iowa I see many photos taken by this company so I know they were there. Would there be a phone book available for a street address or to know a first name??? I understand that phones did not come into existence until 1927. How did people list first and last names and know where people lived before a phone book? I need help; I am stumped. Smile.
