Marj - there is a James A. Kennedy listed as a pharmacist in the Iowa State Pharmacy Register for several years. His residence is given as Waukon & that he was licensed by means of being an "owner", which I think means he owned a pharmacy. Some of the others shown were licensed "by exam".

The Thoma Drug store was in Postville. Do you have records showing he lived in Postville rather than Waukon? It's also possible that he lived in Waukon during the time he is shown in the Register (1880-1888), and later went to Postville. I don't have an exact date, but believe J.M. Thoma opened his drug store in the 1890's.
