I am looking for information on my grandfather.
He was in the New Albin Iowa area from 1893 to 1896, although he may have arrived sooner than 1893.His name was Albert A. Pommerening (later changed to Pommering, and then Pomering). He was married to Emilia Mathews in 1893 at the St. Peter's Church in New Albin.
His son Otto W. was baptised at the same church in 1894.
Another son, Emil, was baptised in 1896.
Another family named Pommerening went to the same church. That family was Fred Pommerening and wife Caroline. Their children were baptised in the same church ....
Wilhelm in 1888 (later became William )
Alfred in 1891
Martha in 1893
Otto F. in 1895Sometime after 1896 both families moved to Wisconsin in an area close to each other. This is where they spent the remainder of their lives.
I would like to find any information that would tell me if these two families were related. The age difference between Albert and Fred is about 5 years. They could be brothers.
In census records, the year of immigration for both vary from 1875 to 1891. Fred immigrated with his wife and 2 year old child. The child was born Dec 1885. So that should make his immigration about 1887.
If anyone has any info on the Albert Pommerening or Fred Pommerening families, please contact me.
I want to know about the relationship of the two families. Also anything on Emilia Mathews, who Albert married in 1893. (my grandmother)
I will be continuing my research.
Thanks,
Lloyd Pomering ..... living in Wisconsin
