Transcription note - this was a lengthly obituary. I've transcribed only some of it because I don't believe he probably never lived in Allamakee co. - but 3 of his siblings did so it may be of interest to someone.

A brief notice of the death, in California recently, of Mr. E.A. Rockwell, brother of our townsfolk, G.A. Rockwell, Mrs. Hazleton and Mrs. Purdy, has appeared in THE MIRROR, awaiting a more extended notice from the papers best acquainted with the deceased, which we are now enabled to reprint from the 'Grass Valley Union':
Elijah Alvord Rockwell died last Friday at Sacramento, of a brain disease, and was buried in the Printers' Plot, in the Cemetery. He came to the Pacific coast in 1846, was both a printer and an editor, having been connected with several leading papers of this State. ...... He served one term in the California Assembly - the session of 1869-70.....Light be the sod that covers the grave of the worn out man.
