Waukon, Ia., March 4 - Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Charles Roese, pioneer settler of Allamakee county, having resided here for almost 80 years. Mr. Roese died suddenly at Independence Wednesday. Burial was made in the family vault constructed a number of years ago on the Center farm in Jefferson township.

Mr. Roese was born in Germany 82 years ago and came to Allamakee county with his parents when about three years of age. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Roese, early settlers of Center township. He made his home on the farm until 1919, when he disposed of it and had since lived a retired life, spending the summers in Waukon and the winters in Florida.

Mr. Roese is survived by one sister, Miss Sophia Roese, of Lansing. He also leaves a nephew and a niece.
