Transcriber & Proof-reader notes for
PG 216: LN #3 - The surname is essentially illegible. My assumption is that the enumerator started to record a surname, then overwrote it in thick black ink. I think this may very possibly be Casper Manderfield, who is recorded on the 1860 U.S. Federal Census, Non-Population Schedule, next to George Peacock. Caspar Manderfield is shown to have $500 in property value, the same as on the entry in LN #3 above. (KA) The Return of Deaths, Allamakee County recorded Casper Manderfield, unmarried, died 1903, buried Cherry Mound cemetery. (SF) LN #4 & 5 - If it is correct that Casper Manderfield was unmarried, it is possible that lines 4 & 5 might be Paul Manderfield, died 1867 & Getrud Manderfield, died 1884. They are shown in other records as Casper's parents. Both are also buried in Cherry Mound cemetery. The given name 'Martha' is written for LN 5, a conflict needing to be resolved, but it could be a middle name. (SF) LN #6, 7 & 8 - The surname is undetermined for all. No records for James, John or William in association with Casper Manderfield or any Manderfield show up. Very possibly the enumerator incorrectly combined two families under one surname. (KA) It is the responsibility of interested researchers to use the above notes as "food for thought" and come to their own conclusions as to the surname for Lines 3 thru 8 |
